'The Big Wonky Strawberry' to combat food waste via Thinkerbell

Healthy soft drinks brand DASH Water has joined forces with Thinkerbell and local Australian strawberry farmers to "wonkify" Victoria’s Big Strawberry.

DASH Water works with local farmers to infuse its sparkling spring water with real Australian wonky fruit - giving them peace of mind that their surplus crops, and the energy used to produce them, won’t go to waste.

So, why the Big Strawberry? From the Big Banana to the Big Pineapple, Australia loves its big things. These sculptures draw local and international crowds to regional locations.

To drive attention on another big thing that is rarely spoken about – the nation’s food waste problem with 2.4 billion kilograms of ‘ugly’ fruit and vegetables going to landfill in Australia every year – DASH Water turned one of Australia’s iconic big things, The Big Strawberry, into a wonky wonder.

Since launch, it’s been talked about by 7NEWS, WIN News, ABC Victoria and more.

DASH Water brand manager Elle Kinsman said since entering the Australian market in 2021, the company has been on a mission to fight food waste in Australia and celebrate wonky fruit.

“That’s why we wanted to turn one of Australia’s big fruits into a wonky marvel, especially as we infuse our sparkling waters with delicious, locally grown wonky fruits," said Kinsman.

The Big Wonky Strawberry is at 7034 Goulburn Valley Highway, Koonoomoo, Victoria.
