Network Ten has announced the revival of sports news show, Sports Tonight, which returns to Australian television following a seven-year hiatus.

Hosted by Network Ten’s newly appointed head of sport Matt White, who hosted the show previously, Sports Tonight boasts a new look while continuing to deliver sports news, match results and game highlights for all sports from Australia and around the world.

The show will air on the Ten and Win netwroks, Sundays at 9:15pm.

The program will also feature opinions and in-depth analysis from regular panellists including current and ex-sports stars, such as three-time AFL Premiership player Josh Gibson and Rugby League legend and former NSW Blues coach Laurie Daley.

Joining the team each week will be sports reporters Caty Price and Scott Mackinnon, who will report on the weekend of AFL and NRL, focusing on the big issues and all the latest breaking football news.

The team will have a strong focus on footy across both codes. The popular and long-running segment, 'Play Of The Day' also returns.

“It is fantastic to be bringing Sports Tonight back in a rejuvenated style," White says.

"This is a sports news show which won’t disappoint and will bring all the latest sports scores, highlights, expert opinion, interviews and analysis to viewers.

“We are introducing a number of new and exciting segments, as well as including the much-loved Play Of The Day. We plan to have a lot of fun each week.”

The show returns to air at a time when sport analysis programs continue to grow.

All three codes major codes of Australian sport, NRL, AFL and Cricket, have dedicated 24-hour channels on Foxtel, with Cricket Australia and Fox Sports announcing its new channel at a media event last week.

NRL.com has invested millions into a new digital strategy that includes its own studio in Sydney, which hosts a variety of new panel shows, dedicated to in-game analysis, opinion and talent interviews.
