TBWA's Sydney managing director Tanya Vragalis has been made redundant, the agency confirmed.

Vragalis joined TBWA in 2018 as head of business management and has led key client relationships including Amazon, Optus and CUB/Great Northern Brewing Co.

She was promoted to general manager of TBWA Sydney in 2020 before becoming MD in October 2021.

TBWA president & regional CEO Paul Bradbury said Vragalis has been a valued and much respected leader in the agency for the past six years.

"Tanya deeply cares about her clients, the work and the team around her. We will miss her talent and her calming, caring humanity and positivity. Tanya leaves TBWA with enormous respect and admiration from us all," he said.

Industry insiders say there's been shifts to the agency since Telstra announced a shake up to its brand and marketing agency roster last year, with the creation of ‘+61,’ a partnership formed to lead its brand after completing a review.

+61 brings together independent creative studio Bear Meets Eagle On Fire, Omnicom's TBWA and Telstra’s existing media agency OMD.

The agency started working in December 2023.

A slow first quarter, as a result of economic issues and the changing nature of advertising, have also seen many local creative arms of global holding groups slim down.

The last week of March saw WPP and M&C Saatchi restructure leadership teams, with WPP announcing its second creative agency merger in six months.

The resulting redundancies didn’t surprise most industry insiders, with more cuts in other agencies speculated but not yet reported on.

The end of 2023 also saw a rush of redundancies across adland as consumer sentiment ended its second worst year on record.
