EXCLUSIVE: Seven Media Group is understood to be in advanced negotiations to offload its personal video recorder (PVR) box TiVo and the video-on-demand service CASPA.

Interested parties are said to include rival PVR manufacturers and telco companies. SMG executives did not return calls at the time of writing, but a deal could be struck within two weeks, according to some industry observers.

It is unclear whether there are negotiations taking place to divest TiVo and CASPA separately. CASPA offers a wide range of new release and back-catalogue movies, TV shows and music downloads.

The digital rights deals CASPA has already struck for the Australian market is likely to attract the most interest from telco companies looking to build IPTV services to rival the likes of Fetch TV and Hulu.

The rationale for SMG’s divestment remains unclear although some industry executives say the group has been flagging its intention to focus on its other IPTV services and catch-up TV offer through Plus7 and the Yahoo!7 venture.
