REA Group has promoted its chief financial officer Owen Wilson to CEO following the departure of Tracey Fellows earlier this year.

Fellows is set to step down from her role in January, taking a bigger role within the News Corp business as president of global digital real estate.

Wilson joined REA in 2014 from recruitment agency Chandler Macleod. Prior to that he was chief operating officer at ANZ’s Institutional and Investment Bank and worked within the bank for 15 years.

REA chairman Hamish McLennan said Wilson has played a major role in the company’s growth since he came on board in 2014.

“He has a deep understanding of the company, our long-term strategy and the importance of our customers in driving business success,” McLennan said.

“The board has worked closely with Owen over the past four years in his capacity as chief financial officer, and we are excited by his vision for the future of REA. The board has a long-term commitment to succession planning, and I am pleased that this internal appointment reflects the strength of our REA Group talent,” he said.

Meanwhile, Henry Ruiz’s role as CEO of its Asian operations will be expanded to include chief strategy officer to drive its long-term growth strategy across Asia and Australia.

“I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way, especially Tracey. REA Group is in a strong position. My priority is to ensure we continue to drive value for our customers and consumers in Australia and Asia,” said Wilson.

Wilson and Ruiz promotion follows the hire of Domain CMO Melina Cruickshank.
