Creative agency Noisy Beast is supporting environmental charity CERES in launching a Backyard Bee Census.

CERES Environment Park, based in Melbourne’s inner north, is an environmental education centre, urban farm and social enterprise hub on a mission to help people fall in love with the Earth again.

The centre is holding a Backyard Bee Census November 14, showing how powerful local actions can be. Each participant will choose a flowering plant in their backyard or nearby park and spend 10 minutes counting and identifying pollinating insects that land on it.

The census won’t just serve as a mindful activity that brings families together; the observations will be collected by Wild Pollinator Count, which have been running a long-term study into pollinator health, which is widely under researched in Australia.

David Brown, Managing Director and Partner of Noisy Beast: “Our purpose has always been to give brands who want to make a positive change in the world a bigger voice.

"We are especially passionate about contributing to the community in which we work, so very proud to get behind CERES to help spread this important message through leveraging our integrated and full-service offering.

"We previously volunteered at the CERES site on World Environment Day, since COVID restrictions prevented that this year, we jumped at the opportunity to lend a hand in another way.”

Noisy Beast developed the campaign creative, including the campaign lock up and visual identity, landing page, posters, flyers, and created assets for print, outdoor, radio and social media advertising.

Noisy Beast has also secured pro bono radio and outdoor media activity through the generous support of ARN and JC Decaux and hopes that other media publishers will spare available inventory in support of CERES and the Backyard Bee Census.

Ben Manassah, the organiser of the Backyard Bee Census: “Our aim through the census is to bring awareness of the importance of pollinators and the role they play in biodiversity, and to bring families and households closer to nature.

"Noisy Beast were not only generous with their time, but really understood our need for the campaign to be grassroots and authentic.”

CERES has already signed up more than 9,000 households and are aiming for 20,000 households to take the Backyard Bee Census on November 14.
