News Corp promotes Lou Barrett in management shake up

News Corp has promoted Lou Barrett, who joined last year from Network Ten, to executive general manager of network sales. She has responsibility for all network sales, revenue, partnerships, key accounts and agency sales. Her former title was executive GM of network partnerships. At Ten she was chief sales officer and then executive general manager.

CEO Michael Miller said in an internal memo that the shake up “will streamline our sales operations, bring a national consistency to our operating models for community publishing and provide us with a more aligned leadership structure across our publishing assets”.

He added: “As a business, it is important we continue to review and assess how we work, and identify the opportunities, talent and expertise to help reshape our business for the future.

“I am confident that these new roles outlined below will provide us with the leadership, vision and strategic thinking to guide our long-term success.”

Fiona Mellor, former GM of leader newspapers, takes on a the role of executive general manager of real estate and news community media. She takes responsibility for implementing News Corp's real estate strategy and will work closely with REA. She also joins the board of the Community Newspaper Group.

Both Barrett and Mellor will report to Damian Eales, managing director metro and regional publishing.

Other changes include Emma Fawcett, general manager of NewsXtend, joining Eales' leadership team and the board of HiPages.

Ash Sheard, who has been acting EGM of network sales for the last six months will return to his post as general manager of network sales for Victoria and Michelle D’Almeida, managing director of the Perth business, will step down after 21 years at News Corp.
