Marketing Academy Showcase opens its doors

This year’s cohort of The Marketing Academy are set to present their annual showcase this week (Wednesday 25 October) in Sydney. Tickets are still available. Others due to speak at the lecture include outgoing Clemenger BBDO CEO Andy Pontin, The Ethics Centre Executive Director, Dr Simon Longstaff AO FCPA FRSN, Pip Arthur, CMO Microsoft Australia and the Marketing Academy Founder & CEO Sherilyn Shackell. Clemenger’s Pontin, who has been involved with The Marketing Academy since its Australian launch in 2015, commented “Everyone in our industry complains about the lack of talent, but few are prepared to do anything about it. Clemenger has been a proud supporter of The Marketing Academy from day one and is committed to helping develop the next generation of industry leaders”.

Seven's WA telethon raises $36.4 million

Seven's annual telethon fundraiser in Western Australia, sponsored by Bankwest, has raised $36.4 billion for children's health research, medical equipment and social welfare programs. The amount included donations of $4 million from BHP Billiton. $1.5 million from Wesfarmers, $3 million from Andrew and Nicola Forrest's Minderoo Foundation and $3 million from the WA State Government. Other notable donations included $1.5 million from Perth businessman Tim Roberts and $1.9 million from the McCusker Charitable Foundation. “The team at Channel 7 Perth, The West Australian and The Sunday Times led an army of volunteers, plus more than 250 TV production crew, 600 entertainers and 1,000 volunteers to make this year’s Telethon weekend the most successful ever,” Seven said in a statement. The telethon has been running for 50 years and raised more than $250 million.

McDonald's Monopoly app attracts 2.6 million

A McDonald's app top promote 'Monopoly at Maccas' during September has attracted 2.6 million Australians aged 18 an over, Nielsen reports. On average, each person spent 17 and a half minutes on the app with 61% of the audience women. The biggest age demographic was 25 to 44-year-olds with 1.4 million (53%) using the app during September 2017.

AANA’s Marketing DIvidends to go in front of a live audience

The AANA is bringing back its Marketing Dividends TV show for a third season - this time as a panel show filmed in front of a live audience of marketers. The show, which is a partnership between the AANA, Sky News MCN and GroupM, will be hosted again by James Hier, chief growth and product officer at Wavemaker, the newly formed GroupM agency, and audience members will be able to ask questions. Guests on the show will include Stuart Tucker, recently appointed chief customer officer, of Hipages; Tamara Howe, Kellogg marketing director and Angela Richards, chief marketing officer of KFC Australia. Each episode of the six-part series will be filmed in a different capital city. It starts on 29 November.

GHO adds to CoLab team

UX agency GHO has added five people to its ranks as it grows its client roster and expands its five-day ideas, prototyping and testing service CoLab. The agency has appointed Victoria Bergin from M&C and The White Agency as business director, Moe Sheika as strategy director, Brice Le Corre as digital designer, Marcos Martini as front end developer and Cian McCaughey as Copywriter.
