Liberal Party hunts creative agency

The Liberal Party of Australia is hunting a creative agency for the 2018 state election campaign in Victoria. The party has called for expressions of interest from creative agencies for a looking for “a new, innovative approach” to communicate the party’s vision of making Matthew Guy the new premier of Victoria. Agencies interested are required to submit their credentials as well as 800 words explaining how they would approach the communication strategy for the 2018 election. You can apply here.

Apple to take on Amazon in voice AI

Apple is set to launch a smart speaker using its Siri assistant next month at its developers conference in San Jose, according to reports. The product is believed to be aimed at bringing Apple AI into the home and will have a higher price tag that the Amazon range, which begins at $49 for the Echo Dot. MacRumors cites Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities – an Apple analyst with a solid track record – who says there is “an over 50%” chance Apple will announce the speaker in June.

Dentsu Aegis Network acquires data driven agency

Dentsu Aegis Network has bought Australian data driven customer experience and personalisation agency, Accordant. The 2014-founded firm will partner with Dentsu Aegis Network's (DAN) agency brands with the aim of giving the market a “complete suite of data-led marketing capabilities”. DAN says Accordant is one of the two agencies worldwide to achieve the title of ‘Adobe Media Optimisation Specialisation’, so it has expertise in most major technology stacks with a primary focus on Adobe Marketing Cloud.

OVO Mobile and Southern Cross Austereo join forces

OVO Mobile has inked a deal with Southern Cross Austereo (SCA) to offer radio fans unlimited access to FM radio networks The Hit Network and Triple M. A total of 58 radio stations across the metro and regional Triple M and Hit Network are now accessible to OVO Mobile customers – free of data charges – via OVO Mobile’s OVOPlay app. The idea is that radio fans can listen to their favourite shows without burning through data.

APN's Richard Herring appointed independent chairman of OzTAM

APN Outdoor CEO Richard Herring has been appointed independent chairman of OzTam. Herring has been in the media industry for more than thirty years and has been CEO of APN Outdoor since 2004. He is also a board member and past chairman of the Outdoor Media Association (OMA) and its measurement system, MOVE. Mr Herring’s appointment follows Mr Anderson’s decision to step down as OzTam chairman to focus on his recent appointment as CEO of MediaWorks New Zealand. Herring's will assume the position immediately.

Cannes Young Lions finalists

News Corp has revealed the finalists for the Cannes Young Lions competition. Now in its seventh year, the competition sees young media, marketing and creative talent compete for a chance to win flights to the Cannes Lion festival in June and represent Australia in the international Young Lions competition.
