Netflix's upcoming series The Crown, is about Queen Elizabeth.

Neflix's ad that aired during the Emmy's has taken social media by storm, for highlighting the powerful performances from female actors shown on the streaming service.

At first the ad appears as through it's for its upcoming season The Crown, which is about the reign of Queen Elizabeth, however it then goes on to highlight the female heroines from other Netflix programs such as Orange is the New Black, Gilmore Girls, Stranger Things and Jessica Jones. The ad is also narrated by House of Cards powerhouse Robin Wright.

Emmy viewers took to Twitter to express their delight over the ad, with many praising Netflix for highlighting their strong female talent. The spot finishes doing just that, with the line: “Here's to the women who rule our screens.”

The ad's timing in the broadcast was particularly pertinent, with Ad Week highlighting that there was a noticeable difference in how the Television Academy presented the nominees for the best actor and actress in a drama series categories. Those in the actors category received air time showing their performances, while the actresses weren't given the same courtesy. While Ad Week outlined that the performance sizzle reels could have been cut due to time constraints, it did highlight that the juxtaposition was particularly jarring.
