This year’s TV Week Logie Awards have been cancelled due to restrictions in place over the coronavirus pandemic.

Bauer Media, which owns the rights to the event, opted not to run an online ceremony as many other award organisers have because viewers would miss the “red-carpet glamour”. It would also mean the entertainment community wouldn’t be able to gather and celebrate the TV industry.

Instead, Bauer says it’s focus on returning to the Gold Coast to host the events next year.

“We have spent the last few weeks discussing with our event partners what the TV WEEK Logie Awards could look like in 2020, whilst adhering to Government restrictions and working around the challenges of COVID-19,” says Fiona Connolly, publisher for Bauer Media’s weekly titles.

“All parties agree the most positive outcome is to not hold the TV WEEK Logies, including public voting, in 2020, but to stage an even bigger event on the Gold Coast in 2021.”

The 2021 Logies will take into consideration the 12 months of television just past, as well as all programs that will air for the remainder of this year.

The TV industry has seen major disruptions due to the pandemic, with many shows forced to suspend filming over social distancing guidelines.
