Lisa Davies quits as editor of Sydney Morning Herald

Lisa Davies is stepping down as editor of The Sydney Morning Herald after almost five years.

In and email to staff: "It has been an immense privilege to lead this newsroom, which is full of talented and passionate individuals wholly committed to delivering news our readers can trust - day in, day out.

"The last two years in particular have tested us all in ways we couldn’t have imagined so as things return to a more even keel, the time feels right for me to look towards what’s next."

Tory Maguire, executive editor: "Pease all join me in thanking Lisa for the passion, dedication and energy she has brought to the Herald every day over the last decade.

"I’m sure whatever Lisa does next will see her continue to make a big contribution to the fabric of Sydney life."

The recruitment process for a new editor will include internal and external candidates. 

Cosima Marriner, the editor of The Sun-Herald, will be acting editor.
