This week we speak to MCN National Sports Sales Director Martin Medcraf. 

Time in current role/time at the company:

17 years.

How would you describe what the company does? 

We provide a better, smarter and faster advertising experience for brands looking to connect with high value consumers.

What do you do day-to-day?

Liaise between Fox Sports, brands and agencies to deliver the above.

Define your job in one word:

Sport!

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:

My father. He used to own an outdoor media business.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?

The increasing competitive nature of the sports media landscape – there is more and more on offer for brands today to partner with.

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?

The interruption of live sport, which Fox Sports is leading the charge with no ads siren to siren.

Seven Network and Fairfax.

Notable ads/campaigns you have worked on:

With 17 years under my belt, there are a fair few to name, but my team and I have been instrumental in landing commercial partners for some of Fox Sports biggest broadcast innovations including the Fox Footy Channel, the Fox League channel and most recently, the Fox Cricket Channel with a full suite of over eight integration partners.

Who is/has been a great mentor to you and why?

Having been in the industry for such a long time, I have quite a few close mentors, but they shall remain unnamed!

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?

Put your head down, work hard and build a solid network around you.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:

On the beach in Queensland (home).

My mantra / philosophy is:

Treat people as you want to be treated yourself.

My favourite advert is (and why):

The Carlton Draught big ad – it’s an oldie, but a goodie.

Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to? 

Foxtel! And Spotify.

I’m a Queenslander and I support the Broncos (joking).
