Our Industry Profile takes a look at some of the professionals working across the advertising, adtech, marketing and media sector in Australia. It aims to shed light on the varying roles and companies across the buzzing industry.

Jay Wright: Ecommerce growth expert at Ecommerce Equation

Time in current role/time at the company:

Started Ecommerce Equation in 2019.

How would you describe what the company does?

The Ecommerce Equation is an implementation program that coaches members in key ecommerce marketing principles and helps build a solid foundation to confidently scale their brand through live training, coaching, implementation and community support.

What do you do day-to-day?

My primary focus is expanding the reach and impact of our community. My days are broadly split between attracting new members by leading sales and marketing, and then working in members' success to coach and create resources that will help our community succeed.

Define your job in one word:

Epic.

I got into advertising/ad tech/marketing etc because:

My background in finance and trading overlaid well into digital marketing, and I saw the potential for data driven results to create a predictable and scalable business model.

What’s the biggest challenge you face in your role?

At 300 clients, the projects and challenges we need to solve are beyond my prior business knowledge and experience. I have the opportunity to work on novel things but it's sort of new territory for me.

What’s the biggest industry-wide challenge you’d like to see tackled?

Attribution.

Previous industry related companies you have worked at:

I owned/ran an ecommerce digital marketing agency for six years before starting EE. I worked myself into the ground until I realised there has to be a better way forward.

Who is/has been a great mentor to you and why?

Taki Moore - the dude has a massive empire but still lives his life and has a balanced lifestyle.

Words of advice for someone wanting a job like yours?

Figure out how to add value first. If you can't grow brands to be massive, you won’t land massive clients. You grow great clients, before you win them. Work more on helping people.

Practice what you preach - do it yourself first.

If I wasn't doing this for a living, I'd be:

Surfing.

My mantra / philosophy is:

Good vibes only.

Music and TV streaming habits. What do you subscribe to?

Podcasts.

Tell us one thing people at work don’t know about you?

I once bought a car in California and spent two years driving to Chile.

In five years' time I'll be:

Running the largest private ecommerce community in Australia and USA.
