Guardian Australia editor Emily Wilson will exit the Australian business to return to the London office, with Lenore Taylor stepping up into the editor position.

Wilson has been the editor since 2014, ending her two-year tenure in Australia. She previously worked as the UK network editor.

Taylor has been with Guardian Australia since its launch in 2013, promoted from her role as political editor.

She has 30 years’ experience in the industry, previously being honoured with two Walkley Awards.

Guardian news and media editor-in-chief Katharine Viner says: “Lenore has been with Guardian Australia from the very beginning, and an integral part of its success; she is a brilliant journalist and the ideal person to take Guardian Australia to the next stage of its development.”

Viner credits Wilson with developing the Guardian’s current position in the industry and its credible voice in Australia’s political and cultural landscape.

Taylor says working to launch the Guardian has been an honour, adding: “We’ve come so far in just three years and my aim is to expand our quality, independent coverage of all the issues that are important to our readers.”
