Fresh from the first democratic elections held in the country for eight years, Fiji is making a fresh push to lure tourists to the tropical island nation.

Fiji Airways is urging Aussies to take advantage of the 128 million days of annual leave up for grabs, with its brand campaign "Welcome to Our Home", designed to spruik the "famous, warm spirit of Fiji".

It's running a competition offering the chance to win a stay with a Fijian family and has also called in the "Happiness Institute" to help promote the benefits of a Fijian holiday.

"We know from research that one of the ways we can really 'buy' happiness is by purchasing experiences which then create memories and frequently improve the quality of relationships," CEO of the Happiness Institute Dr Tim Sharp said.

If you know of somebody who needs a holiday, you can nominate them at https://ourhome.fijiairways.com/
