DDB Sydney has announced the promotion of Matt Chandler to executive creative director following a strong year of growth for the agency in 2020.

Having joined the agency as senior copywriter in 2013, Chandler was promoted to creative director in 2016 and deputy ECD in 2019.

Prior to DDB, Chandler worked at agencies including Droga5, JWT and M&C Saatchi in Sydney and London.

During his tenure, Chandler has created award-winning work for the agency’s roster of iconic clients including Westpac, McDonald’s and Volkswagen, and played an instrumental role in DDB’s record-breaking new business wins in 2020.

"I love the DDB Sydney creative department. To an unprofessional degree. The years I’ve spent with all these passionate, talented and hilarious people has made me a far better creative, and person, frankly," Chandler says.

"Making brilliant work for our equally brilliant clients has taken us a long way together, so I couldn’t be more excited to help lead the next chapter alongside Ben and Tara.”

In his new role, Chandler will support national chief creative officer Ben Welsh and DDB Sydney chief creative officer Tara Ford in the day-to-day running of the business, continue to mentor the wider creative team, and drive growth for clients through the power of creativity.

“Matt is a great creative, a tireless craftsman and a compassionate human being," Welsh says.

"These attributes have taken him far and will continue to do so.”

Ford, who was promoted from ECD to Sydney chief creative officer in 2019, says Chandler cares about the agency and its people "beyond his remit".

“He cares about the people and the work," Ford says.

"And importantly he also thinks about the bigger picture. He has helped shape what DDB is today and continues to question and push us to be better. I am thrilled for him.”
