COMvergence - Zenith tops media agency rankings in Australia for 2023

Zenith was Australia's top media agency for billings in 2023, according to the New Business Barometer published by COMvergence.

The Publicis Groupe agency gathered a total new business value of $US108 million, winning 15 new clients including Adobe, Superloop and RAC Q as well as the retention of Disney Studios. 

Starcom at $US86 million was second, retaining all clients who reviewed their media accounts in 2023, including Metcash, Subaru and Bega. 

Wavemaker was third at $US62 million and EssenceMediacom fourth with $US60 million. 

In terms of net new business results, excluding retentions, Zenith was again top of the rankings with new client wins of $US83 million. 

Initiative was second, followed by Starcom and OMD. Independent Atomic 212 followed, thanks to winning Craveable Brands and no losses. 

At the group level, Publicis Media  was ahead in terms total new business, including retentions, as well as in net, scoring new client billings of $US157 million from 29 new clients. 

GroupM was second with the retention of several key clients, including Mitsubishi and Uber. 

Mediabrands was third with 20 new client wins.

COMvergence studied 40 agencies to create the barometer, assessing 202 media account moves and retentions (178 advertisers in total) totaling $US895 million, up about 10% on 2022.

The 20 largest reviews  in Australia in 2023 resulted in $450 million, including Adobe at $US36  million.
