Advertising legend John Fawcett, well-known for his decades of creative experience with Fosters Brewing Group, has been brought into Droga5 to help with the agency's upcoming VB campaign.

Fawcett has nearly 25 years experience working with brands such as VB, Fosters and Light Ice. His tenure in the advertising landscape includes stints as national creative director and chief executive at George Patterson Bates, as Bates Worldwide creative director in New York, and as chief creative officer and national managing director at George Patterson Partners.

Droga5 creative chairman David Nobay told AdNews that while Fawcett has been working with the agency as an ongoing strategic consultant since late last year, his “fingerprints are yet to be seen” on any Droga5 work. Fawcett’s influence will be noticeable on upcoming VB campaigns which launch later in the year.

Nobay said: “There’s a lot of talk about VB’s heyday in the 80’s and 90’s [and] John was in the thick of it. [Droga5 was] brought in to breathe new life into the work, but only an idiot would ignore the lessons of the past. In working with John Fawcett… I believe we created a really smart balancing act of fresh thinking, anchored in some really powerful learnings.”

Fawcett is working alongside Droga5 executive creative director Duncan Marshall and creative director Cam Blackley, who oversees the VB account.

Fawcett said: “During my career, I’ve always preferred working with smart, provocative thinkers who aren’t intimidated easily. That’s certainly the case with Nobby [David Nobay] and the guys at Droga5.”

Fawcett has worked as a private consultant since George Patterson Partners was bought out by WPP in 2005.
