The Japan Foundation, Sydney, is searching for an agency to run PR and marketing for the 2026 Japanese Film Festival, with a $94,000 budget on the table and just 12 days to submit, AdNews can reveal.
The brief spans campaign management, creative production, media buying, PR and weekly performance reporting across Google Analytics, Data Studio and Meta Ads Manager.
Running from September 26 to December 20 across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and Canberra, the festival screens around 35 titles split between a paid Latest Releases program and a free Special Series.
Advertising spend is restricted to the ticketed program only.
The appointed agency takes on more than just the marketing, it will also handle invoicing venue partners and collecting ticket revenue on behalf of the foundation once the festival wraps.
Cash flow is worth noting. While an upfront payment of up to 30% of the budget is available before the festival concludes, the agency must cover remaining costs until ticket revenue comes in.
Film festival experience is listed as desirable, but not essential.
The foundation has put the account out to tender every year since at least 2024, with the budget holding at $94,000 across each cycle, suggesting no agency has locked in a retainer arrangement.
Proposals, covering campaign plan, media buy list, timeline, budget breakdown, company outline and staffing are due by Monday, June 22.
The Japan Foundation has run the festival in Australia since 1997.
