The former try machine used to terrorise defensive lines across the globe but cannot master a spinning back kick in this Village Roadshow promo for The Lego Ninjago Movie.

In his heyday, there were few more feared wingers in world rugby that Lote Tuqiri.

The former Wallabies and Brisbane Broncos flyer averaged a try every second game and his considerable size and speed was a nightmare for opposing defensive lines.

But just because you could smash it in rugby doesn't mean you'll kick arse in martial arts.

Tuqiri wants to impress his little boy before the pair check out the new Lego Ninjago movie by putting on some martial arts moves during a lesson taken by UFC world champion Rob Whittaker in a new Village Roadshow spot to promote the latest instalment of the Lego movie franchise.

The ropey acting by all is only bettered by Tuqiri's attempt at a spinning back kick.

HooZu Productions created the short video designed to resonate with fathers and their children.

“The initial intent was for Lote to impress his son, Mossi, with his Ninja skills before they went to see The Lego Ninjago Movie. However, the ultimate direction of the clip had a much more powerful message with Lote battling with the physical demands of the exercises, but spending important quality time with his son," HooZu Productions head of content Mark Graham said.

It's cute and cringeworthy in equal dosages, reminding the older generation that once mighty athletes can be reduced to awkward dad jokes.

Be yourself, unless you can be a ninja is an apt tagline for this video which has achieved more than 230,000 views on Facebook and 45,000 on Instagram.
