Everyone loves a man wearing neon green budgies over his clothes. Especially in the service of a good cause like water safety. EnergyAustralia and Swim Australia's WaterHERO campaign is hoping to bring you more of these sartorial choices.

All joking aside, the campaign wants to combat a serious issue: the 291 lives lost due to drowning deaths last year. For those under five, fatalities rose 48% in 2012.

So as part of its involvement with SwimSAFER week (25 November to 1 December), the WaterHERO campaign wants people to test their water safety nous. And once they pass, they're encouraged to don their swim gear over their day-to-day attire.

Head of product and brand marketing at EnergyAustralia, Simon Brady, said: “Water safety is a serious issue but we wanted a device that would get Australians talking as well as encouraging them to see just how water aware they are. WaterHERO will drive participation in a fun and engaging way.”

The campaign will run digital and out-of-home platforms. PR partnerships with News Corp, Network Ten and Fairfax Radio will amplify the message.
