Simon Watt won the inaugural Music Bank competition in September, an initiative sponsored by Bank of Melbourne and the Melbourne Recital Centre. Now the banking brand has engaged him to compose a ditty to promote kids' savings accounts in a cinema ad.

The campaign will launch on 26 December during the Boxing Day cinema releases, to be screened before films such as Frozen, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and The Hobbit.

Watt's composition will accompany an animated ad featuring a girl and her penguin money box. It was developed by Ogilvy Melbourne with XYZ Studios. It was designed to move away from the more traditionally 'corporate' aesthetic of the brand.

“We are delighted to use such a talented Victorian composer,” Bank of Melbourne head of brand and marketing Georgina Williams said. “For Bank of Melbourne, it is an essential element to support Victorians and Victoria through everything we do. Simon's certainly delivered something very special for this project. We love it.”
