A campaign for Paw Justice by DDB New Zealand that called for a ban on testing legal highs on animals in the country has ended on a high.

The 'Animal Strike' campaign opposed a law that allowed legal highs to be tested on animals – a concept born from the knowledge that people are entertained by watching animals online.

A collaboration with Google and YouTube saw animal content blocked in New Zealand for one day. The strike was then rolled out with posters, print ads, TVCs and animals striking at Auckland Zoo.

The campaign directed people to a website to sign a petition, which gathered 58,000 signatures.

On Monday, Prime Minister John Key announced on TV One News: “There will be no animal testing, either locally or internationally, to support the application for a psycho active substance.”
