Young Lions: Swatting silos and seeking Kanye

17 June 2014

With the jet lag over and done with we were fired up for a big second day in Cannes and what a day it was. We didn't move from the Grand Audi theatre all day. We saw some great creatives talk like Yves Behar, Spike Jonze, Sarah Jessica Parker, the guys from Solar Impulse (solar powered aviation) and Framestore (who worked on Gravity & Avatar).

Across all of the talks there were a couple of common themes.

The first, that creativity shouldn't be limited to a department and rather, it can come from anywhere in the organisation.

The second, a theme we heard yesterday around storytelling and interestingly the debate around this topic as to whether technology leads to storytelling or whether the technology is simply the execution of the story.

And finally, there was a lot of talk around bravery when it comes to creativity; to find a truly creative answer you have to look outside of the current system. For example, Spike Jonze summed up this thinking when he said, 'if you're a client, be willing to be fired for a good idea'.

All in all a really impressive day and we're looking forward to the last minute addition of Kayne West to tomorrow's program.

Until then!
