Young Lions: All the best ideas come from the Gutter Bar...

17 June 2014

You never forget your first time.

This week has marked many firsts for our career.

Our first trip to Cannes.
Our first Young Lion’s competition.
Our first Gutter Bar experience.

Day one introduced us to some incredible speakers. First up, there was the man, the myth, the legend; David Hasselhoff. Some might argue that the Hoff has lost his hot, but as he ran into the auditorium to the Baywatch theme music it was clear that the Hoff has become a timeless brand, remaining relevant from generation to generation due to his incredible ability to connect with his fans.

It was the first time several of the world’s greatest creatives including Nicolas Pimental from Castro Innovation Buenos Aires and CCO of Latin Works Sergio Alcocer, showed their worst, most regretted pieces of work. In a festival that celebrates the very best, it was truly insightful seeing their very worst. The lessons that they learned from these mistakes would later be the reason for their countless successes. If at first you don’t succeed… go to the Gutter Bar, and try again next year.

Finally, we were lucky enough to experience our first win at Cannes – A gold for our Ungiven Gifts installation in promo and activation, along with a bronze for our Wipe off 5 road safety campaign for the Transport Accident Commission.

Although we always pictured this moment to be shared on some sort of yacht/celebrity rooftop, we had to take our lion back to the hotel room, grab a take away pizza, and crack into our 24 hour cyber Young Lion’s brief due tomorrow at 8pm.

We’re proud to say that at exactly 2:47am we have an idea we’re excited about and look forward to executing it tomorrow in the Young Lion’s den.

Game on, as they say.
