The AdNews Ngen Blog: Ngen 'End of Summer Party'

9 March 2012

On Thursday the 1st March, ngen held their first ‘End of Summer Party’ with a Miami Vice theme event at Cargo Lounge. For those of you unfamiliar with what is typically Miami Vice-esque, think white, pastel colours, palm trees, pretty in pink flamingos, 80’s & really, really bad moustaches (Movember is my most hated month of the year).

ngen hold an annual Halloween Party that is notorious for scandal, outrageous outfits & copious amounts of alcohol consumption. This is currently ngen’s sole annual event, however after last week’s success, I think that the Halloween party could have some stiff competition.

It was another glorious Sydney Summer evening - rainy & overcast – but even so, everyone dressed to impress. Donning a plethora of Miami Vice inspired attire, the ngen crowd did not fail to disappoint. Whether it was a gun loaded with bubbles, handcuffs from someone’s personal closet or some fake chest hair (I hope), the attending ngeners came to the party in serious (80’s) style. Due to current fashions, the line between who dressed up & who didn’t became blurred, not dissimilar to my vision towards the end of the night.

So as we said good bye to our estranged cousin summer and welcomed back those rainy months that never seemed to have left us, the ngen party went off without a hitch.

As people slowly emerged through the entrance, we could tell everyone was down to party. Naturally as the guests came from their workplace, the ngeners stuck with their colleagues until the first couple of drinks sunk in. However as the night progressed, the animals came out. Agency & Media providers alike mingled like it was 1984, despite the majority of us not even being born by then. Those previously camera-shy at the door were screaming at the photographer to take their photo. Jagerbombs were lined up along the bar and larger than life cocktail jugs were skulled like the drought had come back.

Spoilt with a roof over our head to keep us dry and a plentiful bar keeping our mouths wet, the ngeners took to the dance floor with a vengeance. As the night progressed, Xiao’s dance moves became wilder & the DJ’s tunes more gangster, it was clear that the night was a winner. The abundance of bling, Steve Irwin–like wigs, & Oscar the grouch monobrows (I don’t get it?) made for a very fun night. Thanks to all the sponsors – Ooh!media, Fox Sports, Gorilla Nation & the ngen committee for all their fantastic help & allowing us to ensure the evening went flawlessly.

As Sonny Crockett said in the original “the secret to success, whether it's women or money, is knowing when to quit. I oughta know: I'm divorced and broke” – hope some of you took this advice & left at a respectable hour!
