GOOGLE’S WORLD WONDERS PROJECT

From the archaeological areas of Pompeii to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, Google’s World Wonders Project aims to bring to life the wonders of the modern and ancient world.

By using Street View technology, Google has a unique opportunity to make world heritage sites available to users across the globe. Street View is a hugely popular feature of Google Maps which is already available in dozens of countries. It allows users to virtually explore and navigate a neighborhood through panoramic street-level images. With advancements in our camera technologies we can now go off the beaten track to photograph some of the most significant places in the world so that anyone, anywhere can explore them.

ROLLS-ROYCE HOLDS DINNER PARTY ON ASSEMBLY LINE FLOOR

Part of what makes a Rolls a special car (besides the $300,000 price tag) is personal experience and customization that goes along with purchasing one.

Rolls-Royce recently hosted a dinner party for customers on the manufacturing floor where all of its vehicles are hand-manufactured. In another one of its “money-can’t-buy” exclusives for consumers, the car maker transformed the assembly room into an elegant dining hall for around 100 guests at the ‘Dine on the Line’ event.

T MOBILE: BRITAIN LOVES A JUBILEE

T Mobile is running a Jubilee version of “What Britain Loves”, the commercial launched in February. The first TV advert connected the teleco’s unlimited free text deal with the weird and wonderful cultural quirks loved by the British. The second, launched in June, brings out a new set of cultural memes in the setting of the Buckingham Palace balcony, just in time for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

LAYER CREATOR BRINGS INTERACTIVE AUGENTED REALITY TO PRINT

Layar, an alternate reality app that's been around for quite a while, recently introduced a web service called Creator that allows print media designers to incorporate interactive web assets into publications. Creator doesn't just embed QR codes — it can use the features of a magazine page as an anchor point and then overlay pictures, video, and buttons on iOS and Android devices inside the Layar app.

Layar Creator includes pre-made buttons and frames for embedding media like pictures, video, and sounds. However, for print designers who want a deeper level of control for their publications, Creator allows them to upload their own assets, which they can use to create custom alternate reality items.

INTRODUCING AIRTIME

Napster co-founders Shawn Fanning and Sean Parker today announced Airtime, a web-based video chat service that's effectively the same thing as Chatroulette but connected to Facebook. Since Airtime is connected to your online identity on Facebook, the company runs less of a risk of abuse by naked guys — the reason Chatroulette took a nosedive in usage. Airtime also separates itself by letting you video chat with people you know using your name, as well as with strangers you share interests with anonymously. The end result is a pretty simple video chat experience that revives a lot of the randomized fun of Chatroulette, except without all the penises.

AT&T: DAYBREAK

AT&T has launched “Daybreak”, an immersive entertainment experience designed to give people a new way to experience storytelling across multiple layers of media. Launched on www.daybreak2012.com, the interactive drama is explored through five online films, two websites and a smartphone app, each exploring different facets of an exciting and complex character journey. Daybreak began on TV with Touch, the Fox series created by Tim Kring and starring Kiefer Sutherland, when a mysterious object called a dodecahedron was introduced in the final three episodes of the show. The dodecahedron is a “central character” in Daybreak.

THE VIP FRIDGE MAGNET

At Red Tomato Pizza, they believe that their loyal pizza patrons deserve very special treatment. That’s why, this summer, when your hunger is ravishing, but your fridge is empty, there is one device that can change your destiny. Some people call it a 'pizza emergency button for your belly'. Others say it's the 'best thing since sliced bread'. They call it 'The VIP Fridge Magnet'. Absolutely brilliant.

SMIRNOFF GUARDIANS

The Smirnoff Guardians initiative is a social media solution to drinking and driving that allows people to pay for friend’s cab rides home when they get too tipsy to make that call for themselves.

Developed by Brian G. Cheung and Vanessa Krchova, both from the Miami Ad School, the concept would integrate a ‘safe ride’ option onto Facebook that would operate in a similar way to the like and comment features already on the site. When a user ‘checks in’ to a bar or club, one of their friends could then virtually pay for their cab ride to ensure that they get home in one piece.

TOURISM BRITISH COLUMBIA MOMENTS MACHINE

Overnight, Tourism British Columbia flipped the switch on the BC Moments Machine — a one of a kind, 14-foot tall, 10-foot wide vending machine. Forget pop and chips though — the BC Moments Machine offered items like mountain bikes, kayaks and made in BC surfboards. The BC Moments Machine will be in San Francisco until May 19 and is part of the ‘100 BC Moments’ Campaign encouraging travellers to experience what BC has to offer this summer. It's a nice idea but very similar to Coca Colas Happiness Trucks.

THE FIRST TENT IN SPACE

In May 2012, while the world's eyes were on the Space X Dragon launch, another piece of history was made. In the Scottish Highlands four intrepid Vangonauts attempted their first mission and managed to pitch a tent at 104,000 ft (over three and a half times the height of Mt Everest).

The tent was tracked by GPS by the ground crew who were then able to plan a rendezvous with the campers (small dolls) post trip.

This is a fantastic stunt by Scotlands Vango Tents.

TOYOTA: THE IQ STREET VIEW PROJECT

How annoying is it when you’re using Google Street View only to find you can’t get down that one critical street you needed to? Well, here’s the reason… If the Google Street View Car doesn’t easily fit, they simply don’t go down that road, and forever will that street be inaccessible on Street View.

Well, Toyota caught onto this in Belgium, and sent out their very own Toyota iQ, complete with a DIY Street View camera kit, to capture all the missing roads. Users simply tag the street at iQStreetView and Toyota will send out their new iQ Street View car to map that road for you… So far, hundreds and hundreds of streets have been tagged and subsequently mapped by the iQ.
