Countdown of Awesome: Vine Magic, Adidas' kinetic messages and Coke's social robots

22 August 2013

This week’s awesomeness includes perhaps the best use of Vine to date, Adidas’ kinetic powered support messages and yet another great initiative from Coke with their social telepresence robots.

Number 5) Vine Magic
In arguably the best use of Vine seen thus far, Toronto-based Viner Jehreh has created a series of mesmerizing magic tricks using mirrors. He’s challenged anyone who thinks they can figure them out by challenging them to duplicate his efforts at #mirrorland. Any ideas?

Number 4) Adidas Marathon Energy
Adidas in Chile have come up with a novel way of promoting their new line of ‘Boost’ trainers. Kinetic tiles installed at an expo harvested energy of people stepping on them. This was then used to power motivational messages to ‘Boost’ people through their marathon attempt. It’s basically the same idea as Schneider’s at the Paris marathon featured in April but at least has a solid nod to their product.

Number 3) Coca Cola’s Social Robot
Coke Israel’s big on its teen festivals. In 2010 they launched the cunning ‘Real-life like’ NFC band experience to teens who didn’t make the festival, they created a series of telepresence ‘social robots’. Similar to the San Pelligrino’s Telepresence Tours featured last week, each robot has a screen on the front streaming their web cam to the face of the robot. This allows the person to have a virtual presence there, all from the comfort of their own home – or discomfort in this case as it’s clear they’d much rather be there.

Number 2) Cotton Lungs
In Serbia, to promote the MK Mountain Resort Kopaonik, a huge pair of lungs were installed on the one of the busiest and most polluted Belgrade streets. Made of white cotton, during the 10 days whilst the lungs were left hanging, they changed from bright white to a nasty grey due to the pollution. On the last day, a message was released to encourage people to ‘Take a deep breath’.

Number 1) Life Signs
In Argentina to help prevent traffic accidents, Ogilvy used crashed cars as street signs. The crumpled-car-billboards certainly made for impactful advertising (no pun intended). Moreover, they very impressively helped reduced accidents by an impressive 40%.
