Countdown of Awesome: The five senses, or at least four

17 October 2013

This week we are themed with new technologies that reward the senses from sight, smell, touch and taste. Oh and there’s a new Twitter TV integration chucked in for good measure.

5) Sirens of the lambs by Banksy

A simple and powerful stunt by Banksy to raise awareness of animal welfare. We won’t give much more away than that.

4) Comcast subscribers will be able to instantly watch and record programming via Twitter

Using a ‘see it’ button on Twitter, subscribers can click and tune their TV set top box to the show being discussed or watch on-demand on the device. A smart way to help social buzz directly impact TV ratings.

3) Watch Disney transmit sound through human touch

Now you can transmit sound through ‘touching’ a friend in the ear! It’s pretty bizarre but has plenty of potential uses in noisy environments.

2) Douwe Egberts – Face recognition coffee machine

Douwe Egberts offer free coffee to those who need it most, the yawners. Using Kinect face tracking software the vending machines can detect a person’s yawn which then triggers a free coffee.

1)  Food smell for smartphones

We couldn’t resist awarding this somewhat random but brilliant invention that creates smells projected from your smartphone to encourage a richer eating experience! Radically new deliciousness.

Thanks to everyone who helps bring this blog together each week, finding the great stuff with your productive procrastinating.
