Countdown of Awesome: Star Wars, mind control and video games

3 October 2013

We wanted to just post a load of hilarious Grand Theft Auto 5 videos and Breaking Bad memes this week. Thankfully for all our sake we stayed on topic, and have found wrestling writers, mind control and Star Wars.

Number 5: Robotic prosthetic leg controlled by nerves

When we saw this example of a prosthetic leg being controlled by actual human nerves we knew mind chips couldn’t be too far away. We can’t wait to see how this technology helps people with missing limbs or nerve damage, and are even more excited to see how it progresses into the future now we have a direct link between the brain and computers. Mind control is coming!

Number 4: The ultimate fighter of writing

Getting a novel published is hard. Apparently it’s very hard in Peru. So hard that they have mashed wrestling, idol and writing together to create possibly the best reality TV show ever. Contestants battle out to create short stories inspired by three key words within 5 minutes, with the winner taking home a publishing contract. Check it out here.

Number 3: Dear JJ Abrams

We personally aren’t the world’s biggest Star Wars fans (Tom says he is but his favourite character is Jar Jar Binks soo…) but we are a fan of this piece of content for Sincerely Truman. It is great topic that clearly resonates within the industry and broader culture. Best of all, it gives the company some personality beyond the expected creativity, innovation, excellence crap most businesses talk about.

Number 2: Kinect-powered orchestra

There have been some really cool uses of Kinect in the past and this one is up there. Although it’s slightly improbable anyone has a house full of spare laptops, we think it could create some really epic effects at live music events by syncing with smart phones.

Number 1: GTA V 'Dumb ways to die' parody

If you thought trains were a concern you won’t believe the perils you may find in GTA V. If you didn’t already know Grand Theft Auto 5 made $1 billion USD in sales after 3 days - 2 days faster than Call of Duty’s record.

WARNING: there is a fair amount of animated death in this video.

If we have missed anything give us a shout. Thank you to all the contributors every week!
