This week’s inspiration includes Cascade’s limited edition video, Coke’s small world machines, orchestral emoticons and tweet to record your TV show from Brazil.
Number 5) Cascade: A video with only 5,000 views
Kicking off the countdown this week is Cascade’s tactic to promote its 5,000 cases of limited edition beers, by enabling just 5,000 video views of its ad. Clemenger BBDO Melbourne created a custom, ‘embed-able’ video player that houses a view counter ticking backwards from 5000. The views are slowly but surely ticking down with 2,377 views left at time of writing…

Number 4) Acousticons
To help engage with a younger audience, Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra created ‘Acousticons’ – a messenger app that adds musical emoticons to text messages. Any emoticon sent is given a full orchestral accompaniment recorded by the orchestra enabling you to “feel the power of classical music by just sending a text message”. Of course, the limiting factor is the need for both parties to download their app, but it’s a certainly a cunning idea to bring classical musical to their audience in a engaging way.

Number 3) Coke Small World Machines - Bringing India & Pakistan Together
Coke’s Small World Machines is a great use of technology to bring two nations at odds together – India & Pakistan. A custom vending installed in each country enables people to interact, engage and ‘touch’ one another through the screen. A lovely concept from Leo Burnett Sydney.

Number 2) Cadbury’s chocolate imprint greeting
Cadbury in Malaysia repurposed an old-fashioned printing press to allow people to create personalised messages on bars of chocolate. The presses were set up in pop-up locations throughout the country so people could have their own hand written messages swiftly ‘printed’ onto the chocolate bars without damaging the wrapper. More proof that some of the best ideas can often come from long forgotten technologies… (Check out Vimeo for the video).

Number 1) Record TV through Twitter: #Skyrec
Number 1 this week is a brilliantly smart innovation from Sky Brazil. They enabled people to directly record content simply by using the hastag Skyrec. Every day their Twitter handle pushes out highlights of the 3,400 hours of daily programming. Just retweeting this with #Skyrec lets people record that very piece of content. As well as providing a handy service, it’s no doubt providing a handy ton of social coverage for the content itself.
