5 April 2013

This week, awesome work includes a social sigil for HBO’s Game of Thrones, an impressive 3D projection for the new Golf and a kinetic football.

Number 5) Game of Thrones social sigil
First cab off the rank this week is HBO’s latest social promotion for the new Games of Thrones series. JointheRealm.com is a cunning online tool that allows fans to choose their own coat of arms complete with house motto, then share it with hashtag #JoinTheRealm. With nearly 9m created already there are some pretty creative sigils on offer.

Number 3) VW Golf Mark VII Reveal
VW have created a stunning 3D projection to support the launch of their 7th generation Golf at the New York Auto Show. Here’s an explanation from the creative production agency behind the work, Spinifex:
“This 2min projection mapping show transports the audience on an imaginative and fun journey through the 7 generations of the Volkswagen Golf.  Beginning with the design and creation of the category defining 1974 Golf MKI, and drawing inspiration from lifestyle and culture through the eras, we have playfully highlighted, deconstructed, recontextualised, manipulated and transformed what is reality into illusion, creating a memorable experience for the audience.”

Number 2) Soccket – Electricity from a football
Soccket is a smart innovation on Kickstarter that harnesses the kinetic energy of a football to become a power source. Just 30 minutes of play can power a simple LED lamp for 3 hours. It’s targeted for use by poorer North and South American communities and has happily just achieved its funding goal by 123% with some impressive high-profile backers including Bill Gates and Ashton Kutcher.

Number 1) HP The Festival Photoball
To promote their ‘Making memories last’ positioning, HP created a massive blow up beach ball with a HD camera strapped to it. As it was passed around the crowd it snapped photos from interesting angles and then relayed them to the stage and to HP’s Facebook fan page–all in real time. To add the ‘lasting’ bit’ fans could share and print the photos during the concert. Pretty awesome.
