UPDATED: Embattled Network Ten will axe its Breakfast show and Morning News broadcast at the end of this month, with presenters Paul Henry and Kathryn Robinson set to leave as a result of the changes.

The network will pull the plug on its struggling Breakfast show and Morning News program from 30 November 2012.

A spokesperson confirmed Breakfast hosts Paul Henry and Kathryn Robinson will also leave the network as a result of the program's axing.

Breakfast has failed to compete with Seven and Nine's morning ratings haul and only garnered around 10% of its rivals' numbers. Recent weeks have seen the program attract an average of 45,000 viewers compared to Seven's Sunrise and Nine's Today which consistently rate above 300,000.

The flailing format, which has been on air for less than a year, was spared the cut in July but shortened by 30 minutes to finish at 8.30am. It was at this time that Network Ten axed morning program The Circle.

Breakfast is currently hosted by controversial New Zealander Paul Henry, journalist Kathryn Robinson and weather reporter Magdalena Rose. Television doctor Andrew Rochford, part of the original launch team, ditched the show mid-year but has continued to be a regular panellist on Ten's weeknight news program The Project.

Ten's revitalised Morning News format has also been on air for less than four months.

The network said in a statement: “It is proposed that Breakfast and Ten Morning News will cease production on November 30."

However, it has planned to look to further into morning broadcasting next year. "Breakfast television still represents an opportunity for Ten and we will return to the breakfast TV market at some point next year," it said.

In August, the network unveiled a host of American morning shows including The Talk, Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.
