It's that time of year again, when we get to gaze into the pockets of Australia's wealthiest with BRW's Rich List. Heard the one about the race to the bottom and there being no money in media? Maybe it's because these tycoons hoovered it all up.

Out of this year's 200, five made their millions in media and advertising. To make the list, their coffers have to hold at least $250 million.

Bar Gina Rinehart, who always wins, the first media mogul of the list, at 14th, is chairman of the Seven Network, Kerry Stokes with a net worth of 2,470 billion. He is followed by Bruce Gordon, owner of WIN television. Gordon whose wealth totals to 1,390 billion placing him in 34th on the list.

Australian television producer, Reg Grundy in next on the list coming in 57th place on the list with a net worth of $770m.

With a net worth of $375 million, media industry veteran Harold Mitchell takes 126th spot on the list. Last of the media players, at 131st, is ad legend John Singleton with a personal fortune of $370m.

Even through Rinehart's wealth fell by $2.01 billion to $20.01 billion she still rules the roost. Anthony Pratt and family move into second spot after a $1.7 billion rise in their wealth. Rounding out the top three is James Packer, despite losing a reported a $100 million in his divorce, he's still richer this year than last.

There are 39 billionaires on this year's list - the most ever. They include 34 year olds Mike Cannon-Brookes and Scott Farquhar, founders of software company Atlassian, worth a combined $2.1 billion. They debuted on last year's Rich 200, when they were worth $250 million each.

The list will be published in full without a paywall on the BRW website tomorrow.
