Nine catches up with catch-up TV

Two days after the release of its IPO prospectus, Nine is out and about spruiking its desktop catch-up TV service, which has been consolidated under Mi9's Jump-in brand.

The shift sees Nine's desktop catch-up TV service, catchup.ninemsn.com.au, moved under the Jump-in umbrella, which has been expanded to include desktop platforms where it was previously an app-based brand.

The Jump-in website has been redesigned to reflect the change. Programs available on the catch-up service includes Big Brother, The Big Bang Theory, McLeod's Daughters, Sea Patrol, 2 Broke GirlsRevolution and Australia's Got Talent.

The commercial free-to-air catch-up space has been busy recently with Ten launching its Tenplay product in September while Yahoo!7 has partnered with Telstra for its 'watch and win' promotion on the Plus7 app.

An oft-delayed comprehensive catch-up TV service from FTA marketing group Freeview is not off the table either.

“This is the next phase of the continued evolution of Jump-in,” Mi9 director of product innovation Tim Parsons said. “Available on any desktop or laptop browser, tablet or smartphone device, Jump-in is the ultimate destination for all Nine, Gem and Go shows.”

Parsons indicated Jump-in will release more features in the coming months.

Nine Network director of programming Andrew Blackwell said: “Australians love the opportunity to catch up on their favourite television shows and Jump-in is the perfect place to do this.”

Nine filed its IPO prospectus on Monday with an indicated share price range between $2.05 and $2.35 per share. The market capitalisation is expected to fall between $1.92 billion and $2.16 billion. Trading on the ASX is set for 6 December.

Nine recently acquired full ownership of former digital joint venture Mi9, buying up Microsoft's half-stake in the business.
