EXCLUSIVE: Ikon Communications boosted its year-on-year billings by 95% last year, while Maxus reported the highest global growth at 28%.

According to the most recent RECMA report - which covers 2010 billings - Ikon grew its billings from $280 million in 2009 to $545 million in 2010 in Australia.

The rise saw the agency jump the ranks from 11th highest billing agency in Australia to 7th highest, behind Mitchell & Partners, OMD, MediaCom, Starcom MediaVest, UM and ZenithOptimedia.

The next highest growth was seen by MPG, which grew billings by 35% from $155 million in 2009 to $210 million in 2010. Meanwhile, the smallest growth among the major buying groups was seen by Carat, which only grew 1%, from $465 million to $470 million.

On a global scale, Maxus reported the highest growth at 28.2%, which saw the global network lift its billings from US $3.5 billion to US $4.5 billion. It was trailed by UM and PHD, with increased of 23.3% and 18.6% respectively.

In the Asia Pacific region, MPG experienced the greatest growth, jumping 43.3% year-on-year, from US $626 million to US $896 million.

The Australian figures provide an interesting comparison with the Nielsen Media Agency Billings report from March of this year. The Nielsen report, which also examined the 2010 calendar year, found that Ikon piled on billings growth of 89%, to an estimated $330 - $340 million in billings.
