Greenpeace cancels Christmas, Obama and Putin on naughty list

Desperate plea from Santa to boost Greenpeace Save the Arctic campaign.

Greenpeace is bringing bad tidings this festive season. In its latest campaign to raise awareness and save the Arctic the activist group says Christmas might have to be cancelled if global warming continues to melt the North Pole.

A slightly grubby Santa, played by Jim "Downton Abbey" Carter's ratchety butler Carson, appears in a bunker, making his pleas for everyone to start taking notice and doing something about climate change and global warming, because melting ice at the north Pole has named his operation “intolerable and impossible”.

The campaign site www.savesantashome.org says: “Santa can't function His warehouse is flooded. All the presents are ruined.”

The campaign, created by  Greenpeace UK, aims to generate supporters for its Save the Arctic campaign and attack oil companies drilling in the Arctic Ocean. The YouTube video has a direct click through call to action to sign the petition.

Greenpeace claims global leaders including Barrack Obama and Vladimir Putin are ignoring the issues and not doing enough to stave off the melting of the ice caps. The activity harks back to Greenpeace’s 1980s Save the Antarctic campaign.

The desperate plea from Santa, who looks like he's been held hostage by terrorists, calls on people to sign the petition and take urgent action to stop the melting in the Arctic.

Celebrities including Vivienne Westwood, Paul McCartney, Madonna and Jude Law are supporting the campaign.

The agency that created the work is anonymous.

Poor old Mr Clause.
