For brands with bling: Advertisers flock to high-definition

The amount of high-definition television commercials has continued to grow by 20% each month since mid-2012, according to Adstream.

The company's managing director Peter Miller said HD TVCs allow creativity and brand values to be better communicated than regular ads. "There is an appreciable lift in resolution, depth and colour, and the audio is delivered uncompressed," he said.

The technology was crucial for categories such as beauty, food, travel, prestige, fashion and motor vehicles, he said.

Adstream currently delivers HD commercials to 7Mate, GEM, One Metro, TVNZ and TV3 with more stations planned to come online later this year.
