Fairfax has completed a restructure of its Melbourne Publishing division, which has seen the consolidation of previously disparate businesses The Age and Fairfax Community Newspapers.

The restructure has been overseen by Melbourne Publishing's chief operating officer David Hoath.

Hoath said: "The restructure provides an exciting opportunity to position the Melbourne Publishing business well for the future, and gives us a strategic point of difference in the market. The new structure will allow our customers to deal with us at every level in a much more seamless way.

"More importantly, it means that we can focus on the bigger strategic work that must be done to re-shape our businesses and reach the targets that have been set for the new financial year."

Several new appointments or alterations in job descriptions have occurred as a result of the restructure. Sensis Queensland sales director and state manager Zara Bullivant has been appointed as sales director across the Melbourne Publishing division. Her remit is to oversee the merger between The Age and FCN sales teams, excluding Marketplaces and National Advertising.

The Age consumer marketing and sponsorship manager Briony Amey has been appointed to the role of marketing director for Melbourne Publishing, to oversee the combined marketing activities for The Age and the FCN Victoria businesses. She will also oversee sponsorships and community liaison programs.

The Age business director for the Sales & Marketing department Stephen Humphrey has been appointed to the role of Business & Operations director for Melbourne Publishing, which will see him add responsibility for FCN to his remit.

The production processes of The Age and FCN have also been brought together into a single unit, with production director Damien Gray leading the process.

The structure of the FCN management team remains largely unchanged, with Colin Moss staying in the role of general manager.
