EXCLUSIVE: Steel manufacturer BlueScope has appointed Slingshot Media Ventures to its $4 million media account, replacing Ikon Communications, AdNews understands. Ikon has held the account since June 2010.

The full-service media agency will be responsible for managing media and digital strategy and buying responsibilities for the company's corporate brand as well as its stable of building products including Colorbond and Zincalume.

The appointment comes after a competitive pitch involving at least five other agencies. Slingshot Media Ventures chief executive Simon Rutherford confirmed the win to AdNews.

"We're very excited to be working with BlueScope. The big thing for us is obviously as a young agency, when you're up against more established agencies in pitches and you're winning, that's always a good feeling," he said.

Slingshot's other major clients include Universal Sony, 3M, Disney Lion King, Sun Rice and Foodco.

BlueScope Steel spent $3.49 million on main media from June 2012 to May 2013, down from $4.44 million in the prior corresponding period, according to Nielsen.
