AdNews Awards: The Monkeys are chimply the best

The 2012 Agency of the Year Awards attracted a record number of entries.

Independent agency The Monkeys has swept the AdNews Agency of the Year Awards, taking home the top gong along with two other categories.

The Sydney creative shop was also named NSW Agency of the Year and Independent Agency of the Year.

In front of a sell-out crowd at the Sydney Convention Centre in Darling Harbour, Lachlan Murdoch inducted Droga5 founder David Droga into the Advertising Hall of Fame.

Last year's big winner, Clemenger BBDO Melbourne, took out Victorian Agency of the Year, while the Clemenger BBDO group was named Advertising Network of the Year.

Mediabrands-owned UM was another stand-out, with the group winning Media Network of the Year and UM Sydney named Media Agency of the Year. 

GPY&R Brisbane took out State Agency of the Year, The Works won Direct Agency of the Year, while shopper marketing agency Integer won Specialist Agency of the Year.

The Digital Agency of the Year award went to Visual Jazz Isobar – in recognition of digital's break-out year in 2012, VJI was named one of three finalists for overall Agency of the Year, along with UM Sydney and Clemenger BBDO Melbourne.

Small Agency of the Year – one of three new categories this year along with Independent Agency of the Year and the Un Ltd Award – went to 31st:Second.

One Green Bean was named PR Agency of the Year for the second year in a row, while Mango Communications won Experiential Agency of the Year.

In the campaign categories, the Game Changer Award went to Whybin TBWA Sydney's 'Grazed on Greatness' for M.J. Bale, Media Campaign of the Year was awarded to Razor's 'She Runs the Night' for Nike, while 'Build With Chrome' for Google, by M&C Saatchi-owned outfit Mark, was named Digital Campaign of the Year.

The inaugural Un Ltd Award for pro-bono work went to GPY&R Sydney for its 'Signed Finds' campaign for St Vincent de Paul, while Ad Campaign of the Year and Ad of the Year both went to McCann Melbourne's 'Dumb Ways to Die' for Metro Trains.
