Iris Worldwide co-founders return to UK
Iris Worldwide has initiated a management shake-up that will see co-founders Ian Millner and Stewart Shanley both return to the UK. Millner had moved to Asia in March, based in Singapore, as the agency started to focus on growing its business in South-East Asia, India, Australia and China, while Stanley has been in the US for the past four years. The Sydney-based office is unaffected by the changes.
Sony launches e-reader
Sony has launched two e-reading devices, the Reader Touch Edition and the Reader Pocket Edition. The Readers have been set up to provide navigation to online bookstores under the REDgroup retail umbrella, including Borders, Angus & Robertson and Whitcoulls. The devices are multilingual, with two English and ten translation dicstionaries in five languages.
Myer and the Salvos partner with Bravehearts
Myer and The Salvation Army are to partner with child protection advocacy group, Bravehearts, for the group's annual White Balloon Day on 7 September. Myer and Salvation Army stores will sell official balloon packs during Child Protection Week from this Sunday 5 September.
AOL signs deal with Google
AOL and Google have signed a new search advertising agreement, three months before the expiry of their current contract. The new five-year contract includes mobile search as well as the placement of AOL videos on YouTube. The deal, which is effective immediately, shares revenue on a search by search basis between the two companies.
Yahoo!7 relaunches finance destination
Yahoo!7 has unveiled a new-look finance destination which provides Australians with a "one stop shop for local and global financial news". The revamped site has improved stock search functions, interactive investment charts, a new currency converter, finance videos and education features. Users can access resources and advice on personal finances and small businesses.
Clemenger BBDO Wellington appoints MD
Clemenger BBDO Wellington has appointed Colenso BBDO group account director, Andrew Hol,t to the role of managing director. Holt will replace Kevin Stroud, who resigned in April after two decades with the agency. Holt will start his new role on 1 December 2010.
MMA takes new direction
The Mobile Marketing Association has announced a repositioning based on feedback from a survey of members and non-member companies, across four regions. The repositioned MMA will concentrate its efforts on what it believes to be the five building blocks of the industry; promote the channel, educate brands, develop authoritative measurement, develop guidelines, and represent the industry before regulators and legislators.
