The 'Kyle and Jackie O Show', Sydney's most popular FM breakfast show, has lost 1.3% of its audience share in the coveted breakfast spot on 2Day FM, according to the final Nielsen radio survey of the year.
The loss in audience share coincides with the departure of Jackie O, who has taken leave in order to have a baby, and marks the biggest audience drop in Sydney's lucrative breakfast market.
In Melbourne, the biggest drop in the breakfast spot was reported by 3MMM's 'Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire' show, which also fell 1.3%.
Melbourne's recently established MTR 1377 remains the lowest rating station, but has gained 0.3% audience share.
Radio stations which broadcast rugby league and AFL matches are beginning to see declines in ratings, while some cricket stations have experienced a boost, as the sporting seasons change.
The Nielsen radio survey - which compares the 19 September to 23 October period with the 31 October to 4 December period - saw each of the five metro markets impacted by the changeover of sports seasons.
The effect of the cricket can be seen most prominently in the rise in ratings of ABC stations. Sydney's ABC702 increased its audience share by 1.3%, Brisbane's ABC612 increased by 0.2% while Adelaide's ABC891 increased 0.3%.
Steve Ahern, managing director of Ahern Media and Training, told AdNews: "During cricket seasons you often see a rise in these stations. Of course, if Australia keeps losing we might see a drop off. Also, Melbourne's ABC774 bucks this trend, because it dropped by 0.5%."
Meanwhile, stations which broadcast AFL and rugby league matches have seen a levelling out, as the sporting seasons for these codes end.
Sydney's 2GB dropped 1%, Melbourne's SEN and 3MMM dropped 0.5% and 1.5% respectively, Brisbane's 4MMM and 4BC dropped 0.4% and 0.6% respectively, and Adelaide's 5MMM dropped 1.8%.
However, not all stations which play football have seen this trend. Melbourne's 3AW saw increases of 1.2%, Adelaide's 5AA rose 0.4%, while Perth's 6PR rose 1.3%.
