Free-to-air TV in summer boost

Free-to-air television has reported a 12% period-on-period increase in daily reach over the summer period as new multichannels roll out, according to OzTam figures.

Industry body Free TV claims said the figures reveal that 13.4 million people tuned into commercial free-to-air television over the summer period, up 11.7% on the previous year.

Free-to-air television commanded a 62.9% viewing share in the evenings in metropolitan areas, up from 59.6% in the prior period.

The result was higher still in regional areas, with a figure of 64.6%, up from 57.4% in the prior period.

According to Free TV, average audiences are up 13.7% across the day in metro areas, and 25.3% in regional locations. In the evenings, average audiences are up 14.8% in metro areas and 29.3% in regional areas.

Earlier this month, Channel 10 launched new multichannel Eleven.
