Andrew Gilbert, vice president of advertising at Afterpay ANZ, has been made redundant following a global restructuring.

After 24 months building and scaling the Afterpay Ads business, from partnerships with Yahoo DSP to generating new revenue capabilities, Gilbet's last day is Friday.

The buy now, pay later service has announced it will be cutting 4,000 staff globally, shrinking to just 6,000.

The company is pairing smaller, flatter teams with improved artificial intelligence tools to accelerate growth and ‘run’ the company.

"As AI reshapes our industry, I’m excited by what it unlocks. But it won’t replace judgment, conviction or the power of aligned teams," said Gilbert.

"Technology scales. People lead."

All staff made redundant will receive significant benefits, according to the Afterpay announcement. However, the Australian-specific support has yet to be confirmed.

AdNews is seeking comment from Afterpay.

Afterpay launched its own retail media network in partnership with Yahoo DSP (Demand-Side Platform). in 2024.
