News Limited CEO Kim Williams has flagged the idea of moving the NewsLifeMedia offices from Alexandria to Holt Street, a structural change aiming to improve communication between the two divisions.
In the email, reported in The Australian, the newly-appointed chief executive gave the biggest indication yet that he is considering converging the magazine division to the Holt Street office, a demonstration he intends to fundamentally change the structure of the company. Williams said he was aware that staff felt “somewhat removed from the action” being situated in Alexandria.
Williams said in the email: “It is important to me that, in the long term, you will be right at the centre of our national operations.”
Williams sent the note following the departure of NewsLifeMedia CEO Sandra Hook on Friday as a way of reassuring staff of the importance of the magazine division. NewsLifeMedia chief operating officer Tim Sligo is acting chief executive until a replacement is announced.
“You can be assured that I am committed to NewsLifeMedia, which I believe has a big role to play in the future of News Limited. NewsLifeMedia houses some of News Limited's strongest brands Vogue, Donna Hay, GQ, Taste and Kidspot to name just a few.
“In the converged world we now live in, strong brands can broaden their reach and relevance substantially and in doing so become even more attractive to advertisers. Kidspot is the prime example of a business that reaps the commercial benefits of leading the category it is in. Our aim should be for every single one of the NewsLifeMedia brands to become leaders in their field across print, digital media from online through to mobile and a variety of yet to be launched new delivery systems.”
