DDB Group Sydney managing director Chris Brown has called for agencies to develop solid youth training programs, even during times of economic downturn.

Upon revealing the new line-up of young talent to enter the DDB Group Sydney graduate program, Brown expressed the need for companies to nurture talent in the good times as well as the bad.

“This is important full stop,” Brown told AdNews. “As an industry, we are creating problems for ourselves if we don't attract and retain the right talent. This should be supported year in, year out, not only if a business is doing well.

“This is important for all agencies.”

DDB has picked five people for this year's graduate program, from a pool of 120 applicants. The university graduates include Tara Beckfield from Macquarie University, Harry Mountier from Australian National University, Andrew Douglas from Curtin University, Tim Willford from Charles Sturt University and Stephanie Lau from University of NSW.

Several notable figures in DDB Group began their career as DDB graduates, including Chris Brown and chairman and chief executive of DDB Australia and New Zealand, Marty O'Halloran.
