News Corporation has appointed former Y&R chairman and chief executive Hamish McLennan as executive vice president, office of the chairman, to be based largely out of Sydney.
McLennan will split his time between New York and Sydney, and will report directly to News Corp's chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch, and president and chief operating officer Chase Carey.
He will be responsible for developing News Corp's global brand partnerships and maximising revenue.
Murdoch said, “As we grow our international footprint we see a real opportunity to bolster the value of our brand partnerships and I am convinced that Hamish's considerable industry experience, coupled with a unique and wide-ranging strategic vision, make him the right executive to deliver the insights we need to maximise our global media investments.”
McLennan was the Y&R global chief for five years, until he stepped down from the role earlier last year. He stepped down as chairman at the end of last year.
From 2002 to 2006, McLennan was chairman and chief executive of Y&R Australia/New Zealand, and led the acquisition of his former agency George Patterson Bates, to form George Patterson Y&R.
