Marketing jobs are most hated

High-level marketing positions are among the most hated jobs, according to a survey by US-based job network CareerBliss.

In a list of the top ten most-hated jobs, marketing manager was number ten while director of sales and marketing came in at number two, just under IT director.

According to CareerBliss, people who work in these fields are among the most dissatisfied in relation to their salary, work hours and chances for advancement.

However, Marcus Sandmann, Michael Page International head of marketing & customer management Asia Pacific, told AdNews: "It’s a harsh generalisation. Yes it's long hours and multi-tasking, but most marketers aspire to some level of managerial role or leadership progression in their field".

"Marketers are generally ambitious people," he said.

"It comes down to the job and the company to draw this conclusion. Most people managing their career need to decide whether they want to be generalists or specialists and then pursue chances for advancement based on that. Like all careers, it's down to the individual to manage the opportunities for advancement."

The survey analysed hundreds of thousands of employee-generated reviews, applying an overall average rating for each job based on factors affecting happiness including workplace culture, co-workers and superiors.
